Local Gems: The London Plane

The London Plane, Seattle

How was everyone’s weekend?  The highlight of mine was a visit to The London Plane, which has been on my brunch bucket list for ages now. I met my friend Asa there on Saturday for a leisurely meal/catch up sesh, and the place did not disappoint! It’s a restaurant, bakery and flower shop all in one – gorgeous blooms greet you on a cheery cart outside the entrance, and there’s an even more extensive selection to pick from inside.

The interior is bright, airy, and just begs to be Instagrammed. (Seattle friends, if you’ve been there, I’m sure you can attest to this!) The bakery selection looked incredibly tempting, but I’d heard rave reviews about the curried avocado toast, so my mission was clear.

It was just as delicious as anticipated. Now I need to plan a return visit to try some of those yummy baked goods! Pistachio cardamom cake, I’m coming for you…

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday! How was your week? Mine has been crazy busy, but we had a mini heat wave a few days ago, so I dropped everything and made a beeline for the beach after work. It was glorious. Apart from that, things have been pretty nonstop. I’m really looking forward to relaxing this weekend and having my mom over for brunch on Mother’s Day. Mimosas and scones are the greatest gift of all, right? (Just kidding, Mom!) What are your plans for the weekend? As you count down the hours to sweet freedom, please enjoy a few of my favorite links from this week.

2. A French company in Dubai has opened a pop-up nap bar, where you can curl up amidst luxury pillows and relax in style. And oh yeah, it’s free. Happy hour indeed!

3. These 15 wine slushies are making me look forward to summer even more than I usually do. Bring on the sangria sno cones!

4. One Kickstarter campaign is taking the “woman card” to the next level – by creating a full deck featuring badass ladies like Sally Ride, Rosa Parks, and Beyoncé.

This week I’ve had food on the brain with Easter candy piling up on our kitchen counter and Sunday brunch plans on the docket. Easter is one of my favorite times of year, so I’m looking forward to this weekend. Are you doing anything festive and fun? Interpret festive and fun as broadly as you’d like, as many folks think eight hours of March Madness fit into this category. Yes, basketball, the true reason for this Sunday’s celebrations… On that note, have a great weekend and enjoy this week’s mostly edible links!

1. This time of year always puts me in the mood for entertaining. I love having friends over for a laid back brunch or dinner at our place. Paper & Stitch‘s spring blogger brunch has me lunging for the “Pin it” button so I can recreate everything.

2. This week we celebrated my father-in-law’s birthday by cooking him a healthy dinner, followed by gorging ourselves on copious amounts of Costco chocolate cake. We broke out this well loved cod and chorizo recipe from Real Simple, and it was a hit!
.
3. Cadbury Creme Eggs are high up on my all-time favorite candy list. I avoid dairy, but every year I throw caution to the wind and indulge in at least one, if not two, of these jewels of deliciousness. This Taming Twins recipe for Creme Egg Rocky Road has me reaching for the Lactaid.

4. As I’ve shared before, I try to plan out our meals for each upcoming week to make sure we stay on track with our health and financial goals. It’s easy to always lean on your go-to favorites, so I’ve been reading through Happy Fit Mama’s meal plans to get some new ideas.

5. After all the eating and entertaining, who wouldn’t need a break?! I’ve started giving craft subscription boxes as gifts to a few of my friends who have been trying to get more creative. I just discovered The Messy Box, from A Beautiful Mess, this week and am excited to try it out. Everything Elsie and Emma touch is too cute.

Boozy Brunch Recipes

Anyone who knows me knows that I loooove brunch. With a passion. It’s one of the few things that can motivate me to get out of bed on the weekend. While it’s blissfully self-indulgent to have someone else cook for you in the morning, it’s nice to have a few recipes up your sleeve in case dragging yourself out of the house is just not going to happen. Now, cocktails are obviously a vital part of brunch, but it takes a true lush genius to incorporate alcohol seamlessly into your morning (afternoon? we won’t tell) meal. Here are some amazing boozy brunch recipes that I can’t wait to try.

I’m getting really hungry just looking at these. Are you a brunch fanatic too? Which of these would you most want to try? The first ones on my list are the piña colada french toast and limoncello fruit salad. As soon as I get my new place together, I plan to invite my girlfriends over for a boozy brunch!
