The Beauty Brief

Good morning, beauty lovers! Welcome to this month’s edition of the Beauty Brief. We have many important matters to discuss, like the most luxurious face oil, the secret to a long-lasting manicure, and how to make your hair really, really, ridiculously soft.

The Beauty Brief // Herbivore Orchid Youth Preserving Facial Oil

First up is Herbivore Orchid Youth Preserving Facial Oil, which is hands-down the best facial oil I’ve ever tried. A luscious blend of jasmine oil, camellia oil, and orchid extract, it’s super rich and hydrating without feeling heavy. It’s also 100% natural. Packed with essential fatty acids and nourishing vitamin E, I promise it will leave your face smooth, dewy and luminous. Ah, the glow of youth…is really the glow of a good facial oil. Side note: it has a very strong jasmine scent, so if scented products bother you, this may not be up your alley!

The Beauty Brief // Oribe Soft Dry Conditioner Spray

You guys know of my ongoing love affair with Oribe, and my current favorite is this Soft Dry Conditioner Spray. Typically I can’t go more than a day without washing my hair, but if I’m trying to preserve a blowout (or if my hair just needs a little pick-me-up), this stuff is a godsend. Everyone knows about dry shampoo, but this dry conditioner is just as awesome! It’s amazingly light for a conditioner, and it actually contains superfine powders to absorb excess oil. Seriously, give this a try and thank me later. Your hair will be softer than a baby bunny in a cashmere sweater.

The Beauty Brief // Julep Freedom Polymer Topcoat

A reliable top coat is one of those things that I never thought that much about – it’s necessary but boring, like car insurance or a good umbrella. But after hearing that others experience chipping after just a few days, I realized that I may have inadvertently hit the top coat jackpot. So here’s the scoop: Julep Freedom Polymer Top Coat is the key to a long-lasting manicure. It’s a bit more liquid-y than your average top coat, but it dries really quickly to a high-gloss finish. My manicure usually won’t chip for about ten days, but sometimes it’ll last as long as two weeks!

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, lovely friends! How was your week? I gotta say, I’m pretty psyched to spend the next couple of days in my jammies, binge watching The X-Files in preparation for Sunday’s premiere. Yep, it’s a glamorous life I lead. What about you guys? What’s in your Netflix queue these days? I still need to watch Making a Murderer, among other things…no spoilers! Now let’s get the weekend started with a few fun links.

Our favorite weekly links from around the web!

Fall Beauty Refresh

Fall Beauty Refresh

one / two / three / four / five / six / seven / eight / nine

The arrival of fall has me eager to make some updates to my beauty routine (though I steadfastly refuse to dress in seasonally appropriate attire as long as possible). My skin has a tendency to get a little drier around this time of year, so I’ve been using cleansing oil followed by a hydrating mask a few times a week and it definitely makes a difference. I’ve also switched over to this primer, which leaves my face amazingly soft and smooth and keeps foundation in place all day. Seriously all day. I’ve been doing midday touch-ups way less!

I’m really into cream eyeshadows right now – they’re so easy to work with. This one from NARS is my favorite; it’s super blendable and long-lasting. Would it be fiscally irresponsible to buy one in every shade? A deep berry lipstick is another fall staple, and I have my eye on this one from YSL. It’s vampy but elegant at the same time, which I love.

My summer tan is fading, so I’ve been relying on Hourglass Ambient Lighting for a subtle glow rather than use full-on bronzer. I also want to try this under-eye brightener for an extra little boost – apparently you wear it under your concealer and it makes you look radiant. I’ll have to report back to you on that…

Last on my list of beauty updates is a flexible hairspray (do your worst, Seattle weather) and a perfume that’s a little richer (ahem, sexier) than my usual signature scent. I really like Narcisco Rodriguez For Her, so I’m excited to try the new twist on the original!

What are some of your favorite beauty products for fall? Are you experimenting with anything new this season?

The Beauty Brief

The Beauty Brief // via South by Northwest

Hello beauty lovers! I’ve been dutifully playing with products all month so I can share my findings with you guys. This month’s roundup is all about laid-back summer beauty, from the triple threat face spray to the hair styling creme that will make your morning routine a million times easier.

Bumble and bumble Don't Blow It Creme

When it’s 95 degrees out, the thought of blow drying my hair makes me want to weep. Enter Bumble and bumble Don’t Blow It Creme! Spread a dollop evenly through towel-dried hair, twist into a loose bun (or twist hair in sections around your fingers, then let it hang loose) and allow to air dry. You’ll get body, texture and softness with virtually zero effort – always a big win in my book. I like to use this on weekends and days when I work from home since it takes a couple of hours for my hair to air dry.

Yes to Coconut Cooling Lip Oil

I actually started using this in the winter when my lips were super chapped, but Yes to Coconut Cooling Lip Oil is perfect for summer, too. That tropical scent! That refreshing coolness! In addition to being intensely moisturizing, it has a nice glossy shine…plus, it’ll only cost you a few bucks. Your lips will love it!

Coola Makeup Setting Spray

This stuff is technically a makeup setting spray, and it does the job just fine. But I bought it to use as a sunscreen and makeup refresher. It’s made with green tea, aloe, and hyaluronic acid, so it’s both soothing and moisturizing – and with SPF 30, it keeps your skin protected throughout the day. A spritz of this feels heavenly after being out in the sun for a few hours.

NARS the Multiple

Ah, the Multiple. Who among us isn’t obsessed? This multitasking cream stick is a summer staple; you can use it as a blush or bronzer, and some shades even work on your lips. My favorite is South Beach (pictured), which creates the perfect golden beachy glow.

What products are you loving right now? Anything you’re dying to try? Has anyone gotten their hands on the new Naked palette yet?
