Oribe Balm d'Or, Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer, Julep Lip Oil

Hey there, beauty lovers! I’ve been trying out a ton of new products lately (the seasonal shift has me switching up my beauty routine…plus, I’m a hopeless addict) and I’m excited to give you the scoop on an incredible lip oil, a heat styling balm, and the best foundation primer in all the land. Let’s dive into this month’s edition of the Beauty Brief!

The best primer EVER.

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer is pricey, but it is hands down the best primer I have ever put on my face. And guys, I have tried a ton of primers! It’s silky soft, blends into my skin seamlessly without leaving any residue or stickiness, and keeps my foundation in place all day. Not just all of the workday, but literally ALL day. I hardly ever need to touch up my foundation anymore! My skin is on the dry side, so I’m not sure how well this would work for someone with oily skin. But I will use this stuff forever. As for the price issue, my advice is to purchase the travel size, which will last you a freakishly long time anyway. Then you can decide if you want to splurge on the full size version.

Oribe Balm d'Or Heat Styling Shield

As someone who is hopelessly devoted to the Oribe brand – it’s been suggested that I could easily open an Oribe store with the products in my bathroom – I didn’t like Oribe Balm d’Or Heat Styling Shield as much as I thought I would. I expected it to make my hair super sleek and shiny, and it was kind of a letdown on that front…for heat styling, I prefer Oribe Royal Blowout Spray. But Balm d’Or does smell amazing (as all things Oribe do) and surprisingly, it makes my hair feel much thicker. Strange, but I’ll try using it in conjunction with a curling iron instead of just a blow dryer and see if that steps up the sleekness factor.

You need this lip oil/lip stain in your life

Julep is killing it lately, and their new lip oil – appropriately named Your Lip Addiction – is amazing. So many lip oils out there are thick and sticky, and this one is weightless, shiny, and smooth, instantly infusing your pout with much-needed moisture. It’s described as having a sheer tint of color, but if you ask me, it’s really more of a stain that lasts for hours. Most colored lip products tend to accentuate dryness, but this one does the opposite by soothing and magically retexturizing your lips. It’s so, so good (and in my opinion, better than the Hourglass lip oil). Do yourself a favor and try it!

What’s in your makeup bag these days? Are there any beauty products you’ve been dying to try?

The Beauty Brief

Hello, beauty lovers! I have lots to share with you in this month’s edition of the Beauty Brief, including my new favorite eyeshadow, the solution to unkempt cuticles, and a peculiar hybrid product that’s basically a flash grenade of gorgeousness for your face. Sound intriguing? Let’s talk beauty!

Clarins Beauty Flash Balm

Clarins Beauty Flash Balm is a mysterious thing. A worldwide cult favorite, it can’t really be classified as one product; it’s part primer, part lightweight moisturizer, part magical airbrushing cream. (Definitely not a balm, despite the name.) Figuring out how to use it was also a bit of a challenge, since the only instructions are to “apply without rubbing in.” I’ve concluded that the best approach is to spread a small amount all over your fingers and then pat it onto your face. It somehow diffuses imperfections and makes you look refreshed and radiant, like you just got a facial. I apply foundation immediately afterwards for an even smoother, brighter complexion. The only thing I don’t love about it is the scent (Clarins products tend to smell a little grandmotherly to me). But in no way is that a dealbreaker!

Laura Mercier Eye Colour

I’ve been trying to get myself out of an eyeshadow rut, so I was very happy to discover Laura Mercier Eye Colour. These shadows aren’t super pigmented, but they provide a beautiful, subtle wash of color that lasts all day (when paired with a good primer, of course). The shades pictured here are Plum Smoke and African Violet – I’d highly recommend them to any other green-eyed girls out there!

Julep Your Cuticles Look Thirsty

Julep’s aptly named cuticle cream is awesome. I go through this stuff so quickly! Made with honey and shea butter, it’s light and absorbs like a dream without leaving any residue, so you can apply it right before painting your nails without causing any problems. It also renders cuticles pretty much invisible, which I love (so much easier than trimming them)! I like to keep one in my purse and one on my bedside table so I can slather some on whenever the mood strikes.

The Beauty Brief

The Beauty Brief

Good morning, beauty lovers! Welcome to this month’s edition of the Beauty Brief. We have many important matters to discuss, like the most luxurious face oil, the secret to a long-lasting manicure, and how to make your hair really, really, ridiculously soft.

The Beauty Brief // Herbivore Orchid Youth Preserving Facial Oil

First up is Herbivore Orchid Youth Preserving Facial Oil, which is hands-down the best facial oil I’ve ever tried. A luscious blend of jasmine oil, camellia oil, and orchid extract, it’s super rich and hydrating without feeling heavy. It’s also 100% natural. Packed with essential fatty acids and nourishing vitamin E, I promise it will leave your face smooth, dewy and luminous. Ah, the glow of youth…is really the glow of a good facial oil. Side note: it has a very strong jasmine scent, so if scented products bother you, this may not be up your alley!

The Beauty Brief // Oribe Soft Dry Conditioner Spray

You guys know of my ongoing love affair with Oribe, and my current favorite is this Soft Dry Conditioner Spray. Typically I can’t go more than a day without washing my hair, but if I’m trying to preserve a blowout (or if my hair just needs a little pick-me-up), this stuff is a godsend. Everyone knows about dry shampoo, but this dry conditioner is just as awesome! It’s amazingly light for a conditioner, and it actually contains superfine powders to absorb excess oil. Seriously, give this a try and thank me later. Your hair will be softer than a baby bunny in a cashmere sweater.

The Beauty Brief // Julep Freedom Polymer Topcoat

A reliable top coat is one of those things that I never thought that much about – it’s necessary but boring, like car insurance or a good umbrella. But after hearing that others experience chipping after just a few days, I realized that I may have inadvertently hit the top coat jackpot. So here’s the scoop: Julep Freedom Polymer Top Coat is the key to a long-lasting manicure. It’s a bit more liquid-y than your average top coat, but it dries really quickly to a high-gloss finish. My manicure usually won’t chip for about ten days, but sometimes it’ll last as long as two weeks!

The Beauty Brief

As we head towards what is sure to be a dark and desolate winter, I like to treat myself to some extra pampering in the form of new beauty products. I’m especially conscious of skincare at this time of year, and my favorite products right now are the ones that keep my skin fresh, hydrated, and glowing. Here are a few of the items I’ve added into my routine this month.

Julep Restorative Facial Milk

Despite its ridiculous name, Julep’s Restorative Facial Milk is probably my #1 favorite new product right now. This creamy blend of five luscious oils is rich, light, and absorbs astonishingly fast. A great option for anyone who feels reluctant about face oils in general, it leaves absolutely zero residue and feels like nothing is on your face. My skin is on the dry side, so I like to apply it as a serum under my moisturizer before I go to bed.

Lush Cup o' Coffee Face and Body Mask

If you ever run out of coffee in the morning, just take a whiff of this stuff. You’ll be fully alert in seconds. Better yet, slather it all over yourself! It’s like getting slapped in the face with caffeine (in a good way, obvi). Sadly, I shower at night, so its invigorating properties are sort of wasted on me – and you really should use this in the shower rather than over the sink, as it makes a huge mess when you rinse it off. Although Cup O’ Coffee is technically a mask, it makes a fantastic scrub, too – it will leave your skin super soft, smooth, and brighter than before. And unlike many Lush masks, it’s not perishable, so you don’t have to rush to use it all quickly.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector

I read a glowing review of Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector awhile ago, and have been dying to get my hands on it – or rather, get it on my face – ever since. It does not disappoint! This is truly one of the most natural-looking, beautiful luminizers I have ever come across. Just a tiny little drop blended across your cheekbones, brow bones, and the bridge of your nose will give you a gorgeous ethereal glow. It comes in several shades, but I love Moonstone, a lovely pale gold. Word to the wise: the pump dispenses way too much product, so you may want to unscrew the top and dab a little bit on your finger.

Have you tried any of these? What beauty products are you loving lately? Share your faves in the comments!
