Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, friends! It’s been quite a week…now that it’s behind me, I definitely need a massage and a couple of stiff drinks. Not necessarily in that order. What are you up to for Memorial Day weekend? Is anyone going on a road trip? I really meant to plan a mini adventure/getaway this year, but sadly it just didn’t happen. I’ll have to make up for it this summer. Anyway, let’s kick off the weekend with a few fun links!

Friday Favorites: Me time, how to become a morning person (sort of), natural lipstick brands, colorful cocktails, and an interview with a wedding columnist

1. Everyone deserves a little “me time,” but all too often it falls by the wayside. Here are five nice things you can do for yourself next month. They’re easy, I promise! (The Golden Girl)

2. I’m pretty sure this guide to reaping the benefits of being a morning person without actually getting up early was written with yours truly in mind. (The Zoe Report)

3. Beauty junkies, you’ll love these natural lipstick brands. Bite Beauty is one of my all-time favorites. (A Beautiful Mess)

4. These gloriously colorful, whimsical cocktails will have you in the mood for summer entertaining. (Glitter Guide)

5. This interview with the wedding columnist for the New York Times is fascinating. Major job envy! (The Coveteur)

Have a wonderful long weekend!

The Beauty Brief

The Beauty Brief

Hey beauty lovers! I cannot believe it’s almost the end of August. I’m clinging desperately to the last few weeks of summer, trying to cram in all the beach days, outdoor movies, and BBQs I possibly can. I’m so not ready for sweater weather yet! Partially because I only have, like, three sweaters. Anyway! Read on for a few products I’ve been loving this month. (Full disclosure: I love Diorshow mascara all year round.)

bareMinerals bareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation

You know how you can just feel some foundations sitting on your skin? bareMinerals bareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation is the total opposite of that. Infused with vitamin C and jojoba, this lightweight serum foundation feels as good on your face as it looks. However, while it will give you a luminous, dewy glow, it only provides light/medium coverage – so if you’re trying to cover up a breakout, this probably isn’t going to cut it.

Lipstick Queen Endless Moisturizing Lipstick

I am a sucker for packaging, which means Lipstick Queen products won me over the first time I ever laid eyes on them. The punchy colors! The saucy name! I just love it. And when I tried Lipstick Queen Endless Summer Lipstick, I knew my love was justified. Enriched with vitamin E, this stuff goes on super smooth like a balm, but has amazing color payout. My favorite shade is Aloha, a sheer, bright red.

Diorshow Waterproof Mascara

Guys, Diorshow Waterproof Mascara is hands-down the best mascara in the world. No contest. A few swipes of this will give you lush, thick, glamorous lashes that require very little combing out to look absolutely perfect. Plus, it’s waterproof, so you can swim or watch sad movies to your heart’s content without worry. However, there’s a new formula out and I’ve heard mixed reviews. I’m a little afraid to try it…

What beauty products are you into right now? I’d love to hear about your current faves!

The Beauty Brief

The Beauty Brief

Good morning, fellow beauty lovers! I always love writing the Beauty Brief; I would be quite content to babble on about makeup and hair products all day long if no one stopped me. So I hope you’re excited to hear all about my latest finds! My beauty haul was truly bountiful this month, and there are a few products in particular that I can’t wait to share with you…

Are you guys familiar with R+Co? My hairstylist introduced me to R+Co Mannequin Styling Paste recently and it is awesome for achieving that slightly messy, sexy bedhead look. I like to smooth a nickel-sized dollop between my fingers and scrunch it throughout my hair – it works especially well if you’ve just curled your hair and you need a little extra texture, body and/or hold. Be sure not to brush it out or you will undo the magic!

French beauty brand Nuxe hasn’t been available at Sephora in years, so I was delighted to discover that it’s now sold at Target! I immediately stocked up on some old favorites as well as grabbing something new to try: Crème Fraiche de Beauté Enrichie, an intensive moisturizing cream. Many heavy-duty moisturizers are too rich for sensitive skin, but this luxurious blend of macadamia oil, shea butter and orange flower is incredibly soothing as well as hydrating. Plus, it’s made almost entirely from natural ingredients. It has a pretty strong neroli-esque scent (if that bothers you), but I love it.

I have a fairly sizable lipstick collection, but I have to admit, Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Shine is something special. It’s chock full of fruit extracts, vitamins, and hyaluronic acid to help hydrate and seal in moisture, making it a real treat for your lips. But it’s so much more than a pretty balm substitute; color starts off sheer and glossy, but is easily buildable to achieve a rich, highly pigmented shade (my favorite is Devotion, a bright hibiscus pink). And have you ever seen a more glamorous lipstick tube? It looks like something Ava Gardner might have had on her vanity.

What beauty products are you loving right now? Are you on the hunt for anything in particular?
