Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, friends! I’m super excited for the long weekend, even though my 4th of July is shaping up to be pretty low-key. What about you? Are you heading to a family BBQ, or taking in a spectacular fireworks show? Or perhaps whipping up a batch of patriotic cocktails? Whatever you’re up to, I hope it’s memorable and fun! Before you jet off on your weekend adventures, please enjoy a few of my favorite links from this week.

Why travel makes you a better person, summer skincare, how to throw a pity party, and more!

1. It’s been way too long since I went on a big trip, and I’m getting a little wanderlusty. I want to make travel more of a priority, and not just because it makes you a better person. (Hand Luggage Only)

2. Apparently 90% of the signs of aging are due to sun exposure. Yikes! Unless you’d rather spend the rest of your days in an underground bunker, here are a few simple ways to protect your skin this summer. (Glitter Guide)

3. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by your to-do list but are short on time, knock out some of these deeply satisfying organizational tasks that can be completed in five minutes or less. (Camille Styles)

4. The next time you have a truly terrible week, why not lean into it and throw yourself a pity party? As Lorelai Gilmore taught us, sometimes you just need to wallow! (Oh Happy Day)

5. Saving money is hard, guys. But with a little self-discipline, these tricks will make it easier. (Career Girl Daily)

In other news, I want to let you guys know that I may not be posting as frequently for a bit. Writing three posts a week is always a challenge, but it’s especially tough at this time of year, and what I really need is to get out and enjoy the sunshine instead of sitting in front of my computer all weekend. Can anyone relate? Anyway, I’ll still be here – just not posting quite as religiously as usual!

Have a fabulous weekend, and Happy 4th of July to our American readers!

Summer To-Do List

What's on your summer to-do list?

When summer arrives in Seattle, it puts everyone in a good mood. We may deal with perma-drizzle and grey skies the rest of the year, but our summers are pure bliss. For that reason and so many others, this time of year has always been my favorite. Besides sitting outside and soaking up the sunshine for the next three months straight (which sounds like a pretty solid plan, actually), here are a few of the things I can’t wait to do this season.

1. Wear bold, vibrant lip colors. NARS Heat Wave, how I’ve missed you!

2. Find the perfect little white sundress

3. Make rosé slushies

4. Get my Shark Week fix, perhaps with some themed snacks

5. Take off on a weekend road trip

6. Dine al fresco as much as possible (rooftop deck at Terra Plata, I’m coming for you!)

7. Read a book (or four) on the beach

8. Attend the Bite of Seattle (Jules and I missed it last year because we were meeting Emily Schuman! Worth it.)

9. Master the art of self-tanning (has anyone tried these?)

10. Get in the water. Lake, pool, backyard sprinklers…it’s all good!

Get wet!

Obviously there’s so much more (making s’mores, watching the fireworks on the 4th of July…) but these are just some of the highlights.

What are you looking forward to this season? Do you have any special summer traditions?

TGIF, you guys! It’s been a hectic week and I feel like my brain is at full capacity lately…between that and this chilly, damp weather we’ve been having in Seattle, I’m in a bit of an early summer funk. I may be in desperate need of a vacation (or a super long nap/light coma). Anyway, I hope you have something relaxing planned for the weekend! But first, let’s unwind with a few fun links.

Interview with the founders of theSkimm, coconut popsicles, Seattle city guide, an app that shuts down creeps on Tinder, and your ultimate beach bucket list

1. In this interview, the founders of theSkimm discuss finding your voice, going viral, and their journey from dreamers to full-fledged businesswomen. (The Coveteur)

2. These sweet & creamy coconut popsicles are basically summer on a stick. (Style Me Pretty)

3. Ladies, there are SO many creepers in the world. This new app is designed to help you fend off the worst of ’em. (Refinery29)

4. This city guide reads like a love letter to Seattle, and it’s inspiring me to do some exploration in my own backyard. How have I never heard of Neon Taco? (Cup of Jo)

5. If you agree that every getaway should include sunshine and sand, say hello to your ultimate beach vacation bucket list. (PureWow)

Bonus: I love the message of Together Women Can, a public awareness campaign encouraging women to support each other in the workplace as peers, mentors, and friends. (Lean In)

Have a fabulous weekend!

Happy Friday, friends! Despite some interesting things happening around town (most notably, the Fremont Solstice Festival and Naked Bike Race) I’m looking forward to a pretty quiet weekend. A brunch here, a cocktail there, and if I’m feeling particularly ambitious, maybe I’ll even catch up on Game of Thrones. Do you have anything fun planned? While you think it over, here are a few fun links from this week.

Flourless chocolate cake, trips of a lifetime, coffee granita, how to build your dream closet, and the awesomeness of platonic rom-coms

1. I’m bookmarking this insanely decadent caramel-drenched flourless chocolate cake recipe for my next birthday. Sparklers a must! (What’s Gaby Cooking)

2. If you get bored this weekend, here’s how to create and organize the closet of your dreams. (The Everygirl)

3. This piece on the primacy of female friendship and the rise of the platonic rom-com really speaks to my soul. (The Atlantic)

4. Of the 12 types of trips everyone should take before turning 40, I’ve done 8 so far. Maybe I can combine a few for my next vacation. Solo cross-country road trip, perhaps? (PureWow)

5. I’ve saved the best for last: you can now order granita at Starbucks as part of their new sunset menu! Yummm! (Refinery29)

Have a great weekend!
