Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, you guys! It’s been a very long week and I’m excited to do some serious relaxing this weekend, and perhaps enjoy an out-of-control ice cream sundae (see #1 below). I’m even more excited to go wedding dress shopping with my friend Sarah, who’s getting married next summer. Yay! What are you up to this weekend? Before you take off on any adventures, here are a few fun links for you to enjoy.

Insane milkshakes, Oribe's new beauty line, and all the things you're not doing this summer

1. Local restaurant Vivo 53 is adding some insane sundaes to their menu. Topped with everything from ice cream sandwiches to macarons, they are truly a sugar coma waiting to happen. Who’s going to help me eat one? (425 Magazine)

2. I really loved this post about breaking out of routines that may be holding you back. As a creature of habit, I can totally relate. (Gal Meets Glam)

3. Oribe is expanding their horizons with a makeup collection and skincare line! I’m definitely going to need every single product. (Allure)

4. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child premiered last week, and with that, J.K. Rowling claims Harry’s story is now officially over. Hmm…we’ll see. (Vanity Fair)

5. This list of things everyone but you is doing this summer will make you laugh. (Medium)

Have a great weekend!

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, friends! I’m super excited for the long weekend, even though my 4th of July is shaping up to be pretty low-key. What about you? Are you heading to a family BBQ, or taking in a spectacular fireworks show? Or perhaps whipping up a batch of patriotic cocktails? Whatever you’re up to, I hope it’s memorable and fun! Before you jet off on your weekend adventures, please enjoy a few of my favorite links from this week.

Why travel makes you a better person, summer skincare, how to throw a pity party, and more!

1. It’s been way too long since I went on a big trip, and I’m getting a little wanderlusty. I want to make travel more of a priority, and not just because it makes you a better person. (Hand Luggage Only)

2. Apparently 90% of the signs of aging are due to sun exposure. Yikes! Unless you’d rather spend the rest of your days in an underground bunker, here are a few simple ways to protect your skin this summer. (Glitter Guide)

3. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by your to-do list but are short on time, knock out some of these deeply satisfying organizational tasks that can be completed in five minutes or less. (Camille Styles)

4. The next time you have a truly terrible week, why not lean into it and throw yourself a pity party? As Lorelai Gilmore taught us, sometimes you just need to wallow! (Oh Happy Day)

5. Saving money is hard, guys. But with a little self-discipline, these tricks will make it easier. (Career Girl Daily)

In other news, I want to let you guys know that I may not be posting as frequently for a bit. Writing three posts a week is always a challenge, but it’s especially tough at this time of year, and what I really need is to get out and enjoy the sunshine instead of sitting in front of my computer all weekend. Can anyone relate? Anyway, I’ll still be here – just not posting quite as religiously as usual!

Have a fabulous weekend, and Happy 4th of July to our American readers!

Summer To-Do List

What's on your summer to-do list?

When summer arrives in Seattle, it puts everyone in a good mood. We may deal with perma-drizzle and grey skies the rest of the year, but our summers are pure bliss. For that reason and so many others, this time of year has always been my favorite. Besides sitting outside and soaking up the sunshine for the next three months straight (which sounds like a pretty solid plan, actually), here are a few of the things I can’t wait to do this season.

1. Wear bold, vibrant lip colors. NARS Heat Wave, how I’ve missed you!

2. Find the perfect little white sundress

3. Make rosé slushies

4. Get my Shark Week fix, perhaps with some themed snacks

5. Take off on a weekend road trip

6. Dine al fresco as much as possible (rooftop deck at Terra Plata, I’m coming for you!)

7. Read a book (or four) on the beach

8. Attend the Bite of Seattle (Jules and I missed it last year because we were meeting Emily Schuman! Worth it.)

9. Master the art of self-tanning (has anyone tried these?)

10. Get in the water. Lake, pool, backyard sprinklers…it’s all good!

Get wet!

Obviously there’s so much more (making s’mores, watching the fireworks on the 4th of July…) but these are just some of the highlights.

What are you looking forward to this season? Do you have any special summer traditions?

The Beauty Brief

Oribe Balm d'Or, Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer, Julep Lip Oil

Hey there, beauty lovers! I’ve been trying out a ton of new products lately (the seasonal shift has me switching up my beauty routine…plus, I’m a hopeless addict) and I’m excited to give you the scoop on an incredible lip oil, a heat styling balm, and the best foundation primer in all the land. Let’s dive into this month’s edition of the Beauty Brief!

The best primer EVER.

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer is pricey, but it is hands down the best primer I have ever put on my face. And guys, I have tried a ton of primers! It’s silky soft, blends into my skin seamlessly without leaving any residue or stickiness, and keeps my foundation in place all day. Not just all of the workday, but literally ALL day. I hardly ever need to touch up my foundation anymore! My skin is on the dry side, so I’m not sure how well this would work for someone with oily skin. But I will use this stuff forever. As for the price issue, my advice is to purchase the travel size, which will last you a freakishly long time anyway. Then you can decide if you want to splurge on the full size version.

Oribe Balm d'Or Heat Styling Shield

As someone who is hopelessly devoted to the Oribe brand – it’s been suggested that I could easily open an Oribe store with the products in my bathroom – I didn’t like Oribe Balm d’Or Heat Styling Shield as much as I thought I would. I expected it to make my hair super sleek and shiny, and it was kind of a letdown on that front…for heat styling, I prefer Oribe Royal Blowout Spray. But Balm d’Or does smell amazing (as all things Oribe do) and surprisingly, it makes my hair feel much thicker. Strange, but I’ll try using it in conjunction with a curling iron instead of just a blow dryer and see if that steps up the sleekness factor.

You need this lip oil/lip stain in your life

Julep is killing it lately, and their new lip oil – appropriately named Your Lip Addiction – is amazing. So many lip oils out there are thick and sticky, and this one is weightless, shiny, and smooth, instantly infusing your pout with much-needed moisture. It’s described as having a sheer tint of color, but if you ask me, it’s really more of a stain that lasts for hours. Most colored lip products tend to accentuate dryness, but this one does the opposite by soothing and magically retexturizing your lips. It’s so, so good (and in my opinion, better than the Hourglass lip oil). Do yourself a favor and try it!

What’s in your makeup bag these days? Are there any beauty products you’ve been dying to try?
